Stratigraphic pollen analysis of sediments from three localities at 32WE89, a stone circle
site in central North Dakota, focuses on reconstruction of vegetation during the past
approximately 1000 years. Sediments in this area appear to represent valley wall slump dating
to approximately AD 1000. Radiocarbon ages from the site place human occupation between
approximately AD 1205-1290 and AD 1750-1800. A single pollen sample was collected from a
rock pedestal in the stone circle to examine the record of local vegetation at the time the stone
circle was constructed.
