Prototype of the ROI/TCO calculator to assess the effectiveness of virtualization technologies and Cloud Computing services

The prototype ROI/TCO calculator is used to assess the effectiveness of virtualization technologies and Cloud Computing services. The tool supports advanced calculations that aim to quantify the profit (or loss) by calculating the total IT cost of ownership (TCO) of the virtual infrastructure ("as is" scenario) and a comparative analysis of the case of not using virtualization technology ("to be" or sometimes called "what if"). The calculator also estimates the return on investment (ROI) and indicates the level of carbon dioxide emissions.Thanks to its universality, the calculator simulates various scenarios. For example, in the case of migration to Cloud Computing services (based on virtualization), the costs incurred currently ("as is" scenario) and those potentially incurred after migration to the cloud ("to be" scenario) must be analyzed.
