Modular environmental sensor

A variety of sensors are readily available, whether to calibrate environmental emission models or monitor pollutants in the vicinity of traffic or other emission sources in your neighbourhood. This data set supports the HardwareX paper where we present a modular design based on the popular Arduino platform. The data includes the circuit layout, the required coding to let the device communicate the sensor readings via GSM/GPRS to a Linux server, as well as the designs to generate the radiation shield, which acts as the housing for all the electronics. The use case is to deploy the affordable sensors over a large metropolitan area and build up an extensive data set of environmental and traffic pollutants along main transport routes. Since many locations are remote, the proposed device is self-powered using a solar-charged LiPo battery.
