Synthesis of novel peptidomimetics via olefin metathesis

Peptides make ideal pharmaceutical targets, giving high specificity, low toxicity and excellent potency towards receptors. Their use has been limited, however, by poor in vivo stability and reduced bioavailability. The study of peptidomimetics devotes a great deal of time into overcoming these issues by making modifications to a natural peptide sequence, including the incorporation of unnatural amino acid residues as well as alterations to the key components within a peptide. This thesis focuses on the synthesis of novel peptides with applications in pharmaceuticals, as well as in the field of biomimetics.
