Novel Biomarkers of Huntington’s Disease Progression using Machine Learning

Huntington's disease (HD) is a devastating inherited brain disorder. It is characterized by motor and cognitive problems that begin to appear in middle age, ultimately affecting daily functioning. This thesis aimed to harness the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to predict HD progression. By using brain scans and assessments of motor and cognitive abilities in HD patients, novel computational models were developed that outperformed current techniques in prediction accuracy. The findings in this thesis advances current knowledge of how HD impacts the brain. The developed models could support future medical studies aimed at developing therapies for HD.
