资源简介:
Particularly dry or wet boreal summer monsoon seasons are major hazards affecting societal vulnerability in India and Africa. Several factors affect monsoon rainfall amount and limit their understanding. Here we characterize the multiscale variability of Indian and West African monsoon rain from two simulations of the last 6000 years. Changes in Earth’s orbit cause long-term monsoon drying trend, but the Indian monsoon is more sensitive to anthropogenic CO2. Variability is characterized by two major ranges of chaotic variability, each related to the same ocean-atmosphere modes throughout the period. Combination of random 50-500 and 2-20 years variability leads to millennium type events. Linkages of 2-20 years variability with Pacific and Atlantic mean state is at the origin of opposite variability trends between the two monsoon regions. Supporting data provided are sea surface temperature and precipitation from two simulations of the TRHOL project, from 6000 Before Present to 1950 CE. Monthly averages. Experiment TR6AV-Sr02 is described in : Braconnot, P., Zhu, D., Marti, O. and Servonnat, J.: Strengths and challenges for transient Mid- to Late Holocene simulations with dynamical vegetation, Clim. Past, 15(3), 997–1024, doi:10.5194/cp-15-997-2019, 2019. Experiment TR5AS-Vlr01 is described in : Impact of multiscale variability on last 6000 years Indian and West African monsoon rain, P. Braconnot, J. Crétat, O. Marti, Y. Balkanski, A. Caubel, A. Cozic, M.-A. Foujols, and S. Sanogo, in revision for GRL, 2019. Details about the PACMEDY project are avaible at http://www.jpi-climate.eu/2015projects/pacmedy and http://www.jpi-climate.eu/2015projects/pacmedy Files names : <Experiment name>_<StartDate:YYYYMMDD>_<EndDate:YYYYMMDD>_1M_<VariableName>.nc StartDate and EndDate are fictuous. The real start year is 6000 BP, the real end year is 1950 CE (i.e. 0 BP). tos is sea surface temperature in Celcius. precip is total precipitation in kg•m-2•s-1.
