Volume 1 (SZ34) is labelled "Papers, letters, invoices etc. relating to the Postage Stamp Dept. left by Mr. Hansen on his retirement in June 1859". Records contained in the volume extend to 1891 and consist of several parts bound in the one volume. Material in the volume includes letters received from the Colonial Secretary concerning stamp designs, the establishment of a uniform rate for inland postage, creation of a Board to arrange for the printing of stamps, requests from the Post Master General to submit stamp designs for approval, and copies of letters sent by the Colonial Secretary to the Agent General in London re purchase of a steel stamp-making plate. Also included are documents relating to the Postage Stamps Centennial issue, 1889, specimens of stamps printed, correspondence concerning costs of proposed commemorative issues and correspondence concerning stamp designs. Volume II (SZ35) contains correspondence relating to the introduction of the new postal note system, 1893, and the Diamond Jubilee issue of 1897-98. Volume III (SZ36) contains departmental minutes concerning the removal of the Stamp Printing Control Office from Sydney to Melbourne, letters of protest from the Printing Trades Federation (1908) and press cuttings and minutes of the Postal Department Stamp Committee, which met to investigate the establishment of a uniform postal system for the Commonwealth. Volume IV (SZ37) contains correspondence of the Royal Commission on Postal Services, 1905-9. (SZ34-37). 4 vols.
