The core region of Central Asia (CA), an arid area dominated by the westerlies, is critically important for analyzing inter-regional atmospheric circulation interactions in the mid-latitudes of Eurasia. However, the evolutionary trajectory of the climate and environment in this region during the Quaternary Period remains unclear. This study provides a comprehensive review of the spatial-temporal distribution of Quaternary sediments in Central Asia, discusses the paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental implications of various physicochemical and paleontological proxies, and finally summarizes the paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental history since the Middle Pleistocene.
