Effect of biofertilisers on sugarcane microbiome

Nutrient use efficiency in crop production is in the spotlight as levels of reactive nitrogen and phosphorus exceed planetary boundaries. In many situations, crops do not acquire mineral fertilisers or nutrient-dense wastes efficiently, causing nutrient losses from soil and pollution. We explored avenues to improve nutrient use efficiency with a focus on two biofertilisers formulated from organic wastes an, for one of the formulations, with an added bacterial inoculant.
