VPRS 2875 Outward Letter Book And Minutes To Miscellaneous, (Gazette Branch and Legislative Council and Electoral Branch)

This series contains the outwards correspondence of the Gazette Branch of the Colonial Secretary's Office. From mid 1855 this Branch was known as the Legislative Council and Police Branch (briefly) and then (from September 1855) the Legislative Council and Electoral Branch.Correspondence transcribed in these volumes consist of letters and minutes or annotated responses on pieces of correspondence forwarded onwards and is addressed to government offices and private persons.Subjects include arrangements for the publication of notices in the Government Gazette and for the supply of Votes and Proceedings, Acts and Gazettes as well as communications with Departments for returns for publication in the Government Gazette and Parliamentary Papers. Other correspondence includes correspondence regarding the appointments and duties of Clerks of Petty Sessions and Stipendiary Magistrates, electoral lists and the appointment of returning officers and the distribution of circulars.The unit in VPRS 2875/P1 was previously registered as VPRS 2874 Outward Letter Book - Legislative Council and Electoral.
