Long term pest monitoring for spotted wing drosophila (SWD) at the UBC farm

Spotted wing drosophila (SWD) is a pest of economic concern in BC. Since 2019 we are monitoring for SWD at the UBC Farm, using apple cider vinegar traps. In total, we deployed 10 traps in ten locations in different landscape elements at the UBC farm. Year round, samples are collected weekly from these traps and SWD are identified and counted. This project enables long-term estimates of SWD populations at the UBC Farm, measuring fluctuations in abundance in different habitat elements over time.
