Microbial response to water damage in buildings

This project outlined two goals. One goal was to use culture-independent techniques to characterize the bacterial and fungal communities in buildings that had undergone water damage. The second goal was to integrate robust building science measurements with microbiological assays. An extensive sampling campaign occurred in nearly 60 houses in each of two seasons (winter/summer) and spanned two neighborhoods (Red Hook/Manhattan in New York), housing type (public/private), and water damage status.
