Eurobarometer 9 (May-Jun 1978)

The three major topics of this Eurobarometer are 1. Attitudes to the European Community and the Common Market, 2. Judgement on unemployment in general and special reasons for women and young people, 3. Political prospects and satisfaction. Topics: 1. Attitude to the EC: interest in European politics; judgement on membership of the country in the EC; attitude to creation of a European legal area and a truely European Government; attitude to direct election of the European Parliament; expected conduct of the European Parliamentarians; intent to participate in the European Election and voting decision intent in categories of national parties; party ties. 2. Unemployment: judgement on the regional situation in the job market; personal unemployment and unemployment benefit received or welfare in the last 3 years; with recipients of unemployment benefit: urgency of job search and readiness to accept lesser qualified job or part-time employment; attitude to unemployment and judgement on the psycho-social and financial situation of the unemployed; knowledge and judgement on job-seekers, those holding a second job, persons doing illicit work and persons doing overtime; assumed reasons for high unemployment of women and youth. 3. Political prospects and satisfaction: most important political goals of the country; satisfaction with the functioning of democracy; attitude to the change of the social system; general contentment with life and feeling of happiness; judgement on deterrent measures with kidnapings; opinion leadership; left-right orientation. Demography: age; sex; marital status; nationality; religious denomination; religiousness; school education; occupation; household income; size of household; composition of household; head of household; party preference; city size; state.
