Public Opinion on School Governance and Policy in Ontario, Canada: a 2020 Survey Dataset

This data set contains the results of a web-based survey led by Dr. Anthony Piscitelli at Conestoga College and Dr. Andrea Perrella at Wilfrid Laurier University, which examined Ontario residents’ attitudes toward school board trustees. In addition, other questions within the survey focused on attitudes toward politics and current events, as well as demographic-related questions. The online survey was conducted by Dynata between November 21st and December 2, 2020. A total of 2,541 people over the age of 18 participated in the survey, with an oversampling of parents with school-aged children (1,318 of the total respondents). Ontarians with school-aged children make up 33% of the population but they represented 56% of the survey respondents. The results of the survey included below have been weighted by parental status, age, gender, and region of Ontario. The survey was funded by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council’s Insight Development Grant and was approved by the Research Ethics Boards of Conestoga College and Wilfrid Laurier University.
