Soil microbial community analysis before and after ethanol-based anaerobic soil disinfestation. soil metagenome

Anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD) consists of application of labile organic materials to soil, flooding, and covering the soil surface with plastic film. ASD is widely used as an ecofriendly alternative to chemical fumigation to eliminate soil-borne plant pathogens. However, exact mode of action of ASD has not been clarified. In particular, potential role of anaerobic soil bacteria in disinfestation is unclear. In this project, microbial community structure before and after ASD is determined by high-throughput Illumina sequencing of 16S rRNA gene amplicons in order to identify bacteria playing an important function in ASD. Diluted ethanol is used as a carbon source.
