Using Illumina DNA sequencing technology we have sequenced and assembled a draft genome and transcriptome from the New Zealand giant collembolan Holacanthella duospinosa. We have used this annotated genome assembly to investigate the genetic basis of sex determination, chemosensory systems, development genes, DNA methylation and phylogenetic position among basal hexapods.
