Students' Tendency to Use Algorithms and Success in School Mathematics Tasks

This dataset accompanies the article Students’ tendency to use algorithms, which investigates the relationship between students’ reliance on algorithmic procedures and their success in solving mathematical problems. The data were collected in 2021 from 333 Czech students aged 14–15. Two tests were used: a custom-designed algorithm test and a standardized mathematics test used for entrance to lower secondary grammar schools in the Czech Republic. The dataset includes anonymized student-level data for three key variables: Algorithm test – use: The extent to which the student used algorithms in four targeted tasks (scale 0–1). Algorithm test – correctness: The number of correctly solved tasks in the algorithm test (0–4). Standard test: The student’s total score in the standardized mathematics test (0–30). The file also contains task-level information and basic coding criteria.
