Although a draft genome of Azospira sp. I13, a known denitrifying bacterium, has previously been reported and deposited in public databases, a complete genome sequence had not been available, and its full genetic potential remained unexplored. In this study, we successfully reconstructed and validated the complete circular genome of strain I13, enabling comprehensive genomic characterization. Detailed analysis revealed the presence of key functional gene clusters, including nosZ, which encodes nitrous oxide reductase, responsible for reducing nitrous oxide, a potent greenhouse gas with approximately 260 times the warming potential of carbon dioxide, into harmless nitrogen gas. This genomic insight not only provides a valuable resource for understanding the metabolic versatility of Azospira I13 but also highlights its potential application in mitigating nitrous oxide emissions from wastewater treatment and related environmental processes. The findings contribute to expanding fundamental knowledge on denitrifying bacteria and establish a basis for future biotechnological and environmental utilization of this strain.
