Waste workers refers to the number of people both formally and informally employed in solid waste management activities in a country or territory over a specific time period. Formal waste workers are those employed in regulated, legally recognized solid waste management activities. Informal waste workers are those engaged in unregulated or informal solid waste management activities, such as waste picking, sorting, or recycling.
