Lumbriculus database for the publication: Reflecting on 20 Years of OECD 225: Advancing standardised ecotoxicological testing with Lumbriculus variegatus.

The Lumbriculus database contains all reviewed records of a systematic literature search of the ecotoxicological studies using Lumbriculus variegatus published since the development of OECD 225 in 2007. A first literature search was performed with PubMed (last search: 18/08/2025), using the search string: (toxi* OR hazard* OR risk* OR chemic*) AND (Lumbriculus variegatus). The search returned 237 studies (Figure 1). Another search was performed with Web of Science (last search: 23/12/2025): TS=((toxic* OR hazard* OR "risk assessment") AND (Lumbriculus variegatus) AND (ecotoxic* OR aquatic OR freshwater OR invertebrate* OR "environmental exposure" OR "environmental pollut*")) AND PY=(2007-2025). The search returned 216 studies. In addition to the database searches, we identified two relevant studies through alternative routes (e.g., expert knowledge). These studies did not appear in our initial Web of Science or PubMed searches, but they were included because they met all predefined eligibility criteria (see Section 2.2). After removal of duplicates (n = 152), 303 papers using L. variegatus in ecotoxicological studies from 2007 to 2025 were identified. In total, 91 out of the 303 studies met the inclusion criteria described in the paper for a more detailed analysis.
