Listeria monocytogenes is a facultative intracelllular pathogens of humans and other animals. L. monocytogenes can easily adapt to environmental stresses such as those encountered during food processing and storage, making it hard to control in the food processing environment. In this study, we analyzed the transcriptomes of five mutant strains with in-frame null deletions in alternative sigma factor-encoding genes as well as the parent strain 10403S to assess the contributions of each alternative sigma factor during growth under a specific stress condition (stationary phase).
