Soil bacteria and fungi respond to periodic waterlogging in agricultural fields

The goal of this study was to assess the impact of periodic waterlogging of agricultural field soils on soil bacteria and fungal communities using metabarcoding. We compared the ability of physico-chemical and biological soil data to discriminate different soil characteristics, i.e., water regime, crop, and field site. Furthermore, we aimed at ranking these factors according to their influence on soil microbial communities and finally, we searched for microbial taxa that responded to the periodic waterlogging.
