Statistical indicators describing the normalized analysis error variance at each iteration of the Conjugate Gradient algorithm. The analysis error is normalized by the background error variance. A full description of the experimental framework can be found in Section~3 of the publications.The folder with a suffix _rhoo150 refer to the experiments with rho_o = 150 km; the folder with a suffix _rhoo450 refer to the experiments with rho_o = 450 km.

The files stats_nondiagR.nc use an accuarte non-diagonal R for the assimilation.The files under the format stats_alphaXXX.nc refers to experiments with a diagonal R and a variance inflation factor alpha=XXX.The files stats_nondiagR_noise.nc and stats_nondiagR_recond.nc refers to the experiments shown in panels (a) and (b) of Figure 10, respectively (with additional white noise on the innovation vector).
