Data and code for "Coiling in gastropods: a lead to synthesis"

15 July 2025 by Ido Filin Intro This is a directory tree for data files, scripts and images, used by Filin (2025). This study uses previously published databy Collins et al. 2021, which includes morphometric data and images of sectioned shells, and by Noshita et al. 2012, Araki & Noshita 2023 andSchindel (1990), which include coiling parameters onmany gastropod species. Data files and scripts Merged and reanalyzed data are provided in csv format for the three datasets: collins-etal-reanalysis-apertures.csv collins-etal-reanalysis-coiling-params.csv noshita-etal-merged.csv schindel-merged.csv These files were generated from original files using awk and Rscripts, see README.txt files within relevant subfolders. An awk script for generating svg files from jpg images ofCollins et al. is also provided in the relevant subfolder. Adirectory within that subfolder contains the (renamed) originaljpg files and the generated svg images. The latter provide aconvenient way to visually examine goodness of fit of conicallogspirals to measured aperture centroids. R-scripts and svg files for geometric analysis of images of theshells of Ecphora and Tritia (Fig 1.F,G in main text) are alsoavailable in this top folder. Univariate statistical tests and mixed-effect linear growthmodels for the reanalyzed Collins et al. data are in the R-scriptfile collins-etal-tests.r.
