Ten samples collected stratigraphically through sediment from a suspected privy pit and a
post mold at Fort Clatsop, Oregon, were examined for pollen, starch, parasites, phytoliths, and
macrofloral remains to obtain information that might assist in identifying the function of these
features. The presence or absence of parasite eggs and/or recovery of probable food remains are
used to contribute to an interpretation of privy function.
