VPRS 256 Minute Books

Correspondence was referred to the Law Department by other offices and Departments such as the Colonial Secretary and Chief Secretary, the Board of Land and Works or the Chief Commissioner of Police for comment or for an opinion. This correspondence would be annotated (or minuted) and the original document then returned to its originator. Before final return, the document may have been also referred to a third party for noting or for comment. This series consists of the books in which such Minutes or annotations were recorded. For each minute reference is given to the document being minuted. The name of the person to whom the minute is addressed is given, the text of the minute and the name of the minuter and the date. An R number is given for a large number of minutes, this being a reference to the registration of the original document in VPRS 253 Reference Books.
