The list of names for the ÖK500 is an alphabetical compilation of all the names contained in the Austrian map 1:500 000 with an attached indexation. This indexation is adapted to the geographical degree network of the ÖK500. The stripes lying between the latitude circles are referred to as letters and the meridional stripes with numbers. The search grid is labeled on the map frame. In this way, about 8,000 names are recorded. The name directory for the Austrian map 1:500 000 is to be used for the topographical as well as political edition with search grid.
