Infrared (IR) technology plays a significant role in many application scenarios, such as satellite remote sensing, environmental monitoring, biomedical engineering, imaging, communications and so on. Demands of the next generation infrared (IR) photodetectors of easy to fabricate, low cost, high flexibility and so on, greatly drive the development of colloidal IR quantum dots (QDs) as the most competitive candidate material for IR photodetector. In this article, we reviewed the progress of QDs IR photodetectors and the fundamentals of QDs and photodetectors, QDs integration with other materials and structures for hybrid photodetectors and applications of the QD IR photodetector in imaging sensors.
