AMPK Signaling

Maintaining a balanced level of ATP (the immediate source of cellular energy) is essential for the proper functioning of all living cells. AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a master regulator of cellular energy homeostasis: AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is activated in response to a fall in ATP (concomitant with a rise in ADP and AMP) level, resulting in the activation of catabolic processes and the inhibition of anabolic processes.
