Morton Allport (1830-1878) was one of Tasmania's earliest artists and his collection of around 50 watercolours, drawings and oils are early examples of Australian colonial painting as wel as being representative of the styles of art adopted by the well-to-do in Europe in the mid-nineteenth century.
