PROTEUS Passive BCI Campaign

BIDS-format dataset of the PROTEUS project (ANR-22-CE33-0015) Phase 1 experimental campaign. The data includes, for each of the 20 participants, the data of two sessions, one taking place in the "Lab" environment (shielded experimental room), one in the "Simulator" environment (PEGASE flight simulator of ISAE-SUPAERO). Each session comprises a Calibration and a MATB recording, collected during the relative task. During Calibration, a MATLAB Psychtoolbox script displayed a static MATB interface (Figures 1 and 2). Epochs consisted of a cue (green frame) highlighting a randomly selected subtask’s stimulus region of interest (ROI), followed by 3 s of cue presentation and then 10 s of simultaneous c-VEP flicker across all ROIs, interleaved with brief rest intervals. Participants were instructed to fixate the cued subtask throughout the cue period. During MATB, participants then completed the three blocks (300 s each) in pseudorandom order, in each block a version of the MATB-II task was presented with a level of mental workload between Supervision, Easy and Hard. During the task, simultaneous c-VEP flicker were displayed continuously across all ROIs. Supervision: A single subtask was cued for 10 s at a time (green frame, as in calibration).Participants fixated the cued subtask and passively observed, making no control inputs. Easy: Without cues, participants actively performed the three subtasks simultaneously at lowdifficulty (fewer monitoring/communication events; easier tracking). Hard : Same structure as Easy, but at higher difficulty (more monitoring/communicationevents; more challenging tracking).
