scenarios for land use and landscape transformation at Baixada de Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro

Abstract This article is based on the production of land use legislation in the city of Rio de Janeiro and on the buildings that the property market has been producing since the enactment in 2009 of PEU Vargens. This new law changed land use parameters of Baixada de Jacarepaguá, an environmentally fragile lowland area at the West Zone of the city. Through computer simulations, we intend to present future scenarios of some parts of this area, in order to obtain a more accurate analysis of the landscape transformations that are already underway and can be increased.
