VPRS 17410 Photographic Collection

Photographs have been brought together in this series from numerous sources within and without The Women's. Many have been produced by photographers employed by the hospital for use in hospital publications and exist as negatives or prints (or both). Many have come from photograph albums from departments such as Public Affairs, Nursing Administration or Neonatal Services and many were created for a former Honorary Historian. Other photographs have been given to the hospital by current or former staff and their descendants.Photographs exist in different format. There are lantern slides, 35mm slides, negatives of different sizes and prints, in black and white and colour. Some are framed, some are mounted on boards suitable for framing and others are loose prints. The subject content of many are not identified, although attempts to rectify this are ongoing. Similarly, dates have very rarely been provided.P1 consignment - Framed PhotographsUnits 1-18 are formal group photographs of Resident Medical Officers from 1913-1979. These were hung in the corridor of the RMO's quarters in the Services Block of the Carlton hospital until 2001 when the building was demolished.Units 22, 23 and 38 show members of the Nursing Education Staff and hung in the Nursing Library in the Kathleen Syme Education Centre until it closed c.1992.Units 32-35 were produced for display in the Reproductive Biology Unit and show different stages in the process of creating an in vitro embryo.Other photographs are of hospital staff, single and in groups, Board members and hospital buildings.
