Number and distribution of wintering shorebirds and anatids in Brittany

Numbers and distribution of shorebirds and anatids wintering in Brittany. The collection of this data is part of the Wetlands International network. **Sources:** ornithologists from Breton associative networks (BV-Sepnb, Geoca, Gob, LPO,...) or institutional networks (ONCFS, natural space managers,...) participate in the Wetlands dynamic. The coordination of actors, data and their compilation is done by the Regional Observatory of Avifauna (ORA). **Notes:** observations of shorebirds, anatids and rallids frequenting coastal wetlands (marsh, foreshore) and interior wetlands (lake, ponds) are carried out annually, in mid-January over one day. For some species, the numbers observed in this context are not always representative of the populations present in mid-January in Brittany: either because of the difficulty of detecting species preferentially frequenting the marine environment (e.g. harle-uppé or scoters); or from the ecology of species frequenting in number other environments than the wetlands identified (e.g. golden plover, lantern). Some sites that are very inaccessible in winter are not systematically identified and therefore do not regularly provide data on their sector of attachment. Winter climatic hazards can disrupt the phenology of waterbirds in Brittany, or even in France.
