Arctigenin alleviates alcoholic liver disease via Oscillibacter ruminantium-driven citric acid

Alterations in the gut microbiota have been linked to a wide range of hepatic disorders, although the specific microorganisms and mechanisms remain poorly understood. Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality in liver diseases. Currently, clinical treatment options for ALD are limited. Arctium lappa, known as the 'King of Vegetables', is used in Chinese culture to protect the liver and promote bile secretion. This study aims to explore the hepatoprotective effects of arctigenin (ATG) extracted from Arctium lappa and its underlying mechanisms.
