资源简介:
An archaeological excavation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in January 2017 and subsequent watching brief in May 2017 at Land at Wasperton Lane, Barford, Warwickshire. The excavation area was located in the central eastern area of the development area, targeted on possible prehistoric features identified in a previous evaluation of the site (AW 2016a). The excavation and watching brief identified a series of 21 pits and two postholes all dating to the Late Prehistoric period. The shape and form of the pits suggests at least some represent storage pits. A late post-medieval/modern structure/garden feature was also recorded. A small assemblage of pottery recovered. Most sherds are unfeatured and only broadly dateable to the Later Prehistoric period, although one decorated sherd provides a Middle Iron Age date and four sherds date to the Late Iron Age/Early Roman period. Other finds include a worked flint flake/chip and a small amount of burnt stone, fired/burnt clay and burnt animal bone.
