资源简介:
This study investigates gut microbiota profiles in captive Asian elephants with gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, specifically colic and diarrhea, prevalent but understudied conditions in such settings. Fecal samples from eighteen elephants in Chiang Mai, Thailand, including healthy individuals and those with GI symptoms, were analyzed using next-generation sequencing targeting the V3-V4 region of 16S rRNA. Results reveal significant alterations in microbiota diversity and composition among elephants with GI symptoms compared to healthy counterparts, highlighting potential microbial biomarkers. Understanding these dynamics can inform strategies for improving food and water management, crucial for maintaining elephant health in captivity.
