Mixed-ligand dimeric lanthanacarboranes of the type [(η5-2,4-(Me)2C5H5)(η5-2,3-(Me3Si)2-2,3-C2B4H4)Ln]2 (Ln = Tb (2), Er (3)) were prepared as orange and yellow crystalline solids in 76 and 82% yields, respectively, via the exchange reactions between (2,4-(Me)2C5H5)3Ln and nido-2,3-(Me3Si)2-2,3-C2B4H6 (1) in toluene at elevated temperature (70 °C). The compounds were characterized by IR spectra, elemental analyses, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
