资源简介:
Project ALAS is a large-scale inventory of arthropod diversity along an elevational gradient in Costa Rica, from lowland tropical rainforest through montane forest to cloud forest at nearly 3000 m elevation. The project has involved more than 100 systematist and ecologist collaborators. The ALAS website (http://purl.oclc.org/alas) offers dynamic access to the ALAS database, running under onboard web server of the database management application, Biota (http://viceroy.eeb.uconn.edu/Biota). With more than 300,000 specimens of more than 12,000 species, the database covers more than 100 families, superfamilies, and orders of insects, mites, and spiders. Images are included for some groups. The ALAS database offers full coverage of Darwin Core (http://wiki.tdwg.org/twiki/bin/view/DarwinCore/WebHome) elements for each specimen, as well as additional data. Project ALAS was funded by the US National Science Foundation between 1994 and 2006.
