A Whole Other Story: Inclusive Victimhood Narratives Reduce Competitive Victimhood and Intergroup Hostility

Three studies investigate the power of conflict narratives focusing on either inclusive or competitive victimhood to reduce conflict. Among higher power groups, inclusive narratives reduced competitive victimhood and conflict only when people were unconcerned that by doing do they would lose third party support. Among a lower power group, inclusive narratives reduced competitive victimhood and conflict regardless of concern about loss of third party support. <br>
