Turkish Gall Polyphenols Effective in Alleviating PED in Piglets: from Large Clinical Trials to Mechanisms

Porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED), caused by PEDV infection, leads to fatal watery diarrhea and high mortality in suckling piglets, results in significant economic losses. Owing to the limited efficacy on commercial vaccines and restrictions on antibiotics, there is an urgent need to discover effective agents for PED treatment. Through large-scale in vivo experiments in piglets, we discovered that Turkish gall extract (TGE) possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, and intestinal microbiota modulating activities.
