资源简介:
To address the growing public health concern posed by foodborne pathogens, the exploration of new bacteriostatic targets and natural bacteriostatic agents is at the forefront of innovative antimicrobial strategies. In this context, quercetin, a flavonoid chemical compound found abundantly in foods, vegetables, fruits, like apples, tea, onions, wine, red grapes, berries, and tomatoes, has emerged as an active nutraceutical element with potential antibacterial properties. Studies have shown that quercetin exhibits antibacterial effects against both Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, and Gram-negative bacteria. In an effort to understand the underlying molecular mechanisms of quercetin's impact on S. aureus, RNA-seq technology was employed. Twelve transcriptome libraries were constructed using untreated S. aureus (QR-0), and strains treated with 1MIC quercetin (QR-500) and 2MIC quercetin (QR-1000). Analysis of the mRNA expression profiles revealed significant changes in the gene expression of S. aureus following quercetin treatment. It was observed that quercetin can inhibit the growth and reproduction of S. aureus by disrupting its metabolic pathways.
