Supplement to: Nitrogen Utilization and Predictive Modeling of Nitrogen Efficiency and Excretion in Lactating Dairy Cows

The deposited data contains four data tables and four associated tables with data legends. An overview is shown in the file ‘00_nitrogen_efficiency_prediction_models_data_overview'.The dataset belongs to a publication that investigates the relationships among nitrogen intake, nitrogen excretion, and nitrogen efficiency in dairy cows, given large variations in dietary ingredients and chemical composition, as a precondition for developing models to predict N utilization. The results show that balanced energy and protein supply improve N utilization, whereas N oversupply increases N losses. These general relationships can not only be reliably described by a model using variables that maximize explainable variance but also by a model based on variables available under practical feeding conditions.
