A mineral microcosm experiment was conducted in the submerged passages of Movile Cave (Romania). A variety of minerals were incubated (in triplicate) in this extreme environment and were retrieved after a one-year long incubation period. DNA of microbial communities colonizing the minerals was extracted and analyzed using 16S Illumina sequencing.
