Constraining Cluster Evolution at z > 1 with the SpARCS-RCS Cluster Surveys

We propose XMMEPIC observations of 3 clusters at high redshift from the SpARCSsurvey in order to constrain the evolution of Xray scaling relations. Animportant difference between this survey and others is that by usinggalaxyselected clusters, we can construct a sample which is unbiased in its gasproperties. Each of these clusters has been detected by three methods: as ahighly significant overdensity of red sequence galaxies, spectroscopically as acluster with numerous confirmed members and velocity dispersions > 500 km/s, andas a faint, but extended Xray source. Our proposed observations will yieldaccurate gas temperatures, enabling these clusters to be used in a study of theevolution of the cluster gas, galaxy and mass scaling relations to z>1. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
