The Veterinary Register of Victoria was established under the provisions of The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1887.To legally practice in Victoria, practitioners were to be registered by the board and meet the requirements of the ActInitially existing practitioners, qualified or unqualified with at least seven years experience prior to the passing of the Act were eligible to apply for registration. Subsequent practitioner applicants had to possess recognised veterinary qualifications to be eligible for registration.The Act stipulated form of application.Once an application had been accepted by the Board the successful applicant's name was entered in the register and given the next sequential number.The Register records the following information:* Registered Number of the practitioner,* Name of the practitioner, Residence,* Qualifications,* Date of Registration.Each registration was signed by the President of Board plus two board members. This practice ended after the passing of the Veterinary Practitioners Act 1997 and the registers was known as the "Register of Veterinary Practitioners".Some entries are annotated with the:* date of death of a practitioner,* change(s) of address, or the* date of cancellation of the practitioner's registration.
