HeLa, Gene expression under normoxia (20%) vs hypoxia (<0.1% oxygen)

Hypoxic cancer cells are known to acquire malignance like invasiveness and therapy resistance. In order to identify the candidate genes responsible for the malignant properties of hypoxic cancer cells, gene expression profile of hypoxic cancer cells is investigated herein. Overall design: To characterise the genes that are related to malignance and simultaneously can be induced under hypoxia, total RNA samples from HeLa cells cultured under severely hypoxic conditions (<0.1% oxygen) and under normoxic conditions (20% oxygen) were subjected to RNA sequencing. Gene expression profiles of normoxic and hypoxic cells were compared in order to identify the relevant differentially expressed genes.
