VPRS 15611 Unsuccessful Applications, Section 12 Land Act 1862

The records in this series from the Camperdown and Warrnambool districts provide an example of how unsuccessful applications for allotments under the Land Act 1862 were dealt with. The original application with the name and address of the applicant and the location of the land applied for has the section relating to the decision completed with successful crossed out. On the reverse the section at the bottom of the page has a receipt for the refund of purchase money paid. Attached is an Order transferable by Endorsement giving the name of the recipient, the amount being refunded and endorsed by the Land Officer.The applications for land under Section 12 of the Land Act 1862 were placed in priority order by lot. Section 20 of the Act provided that any unsuccessful applicants were to have money paid with the application (as provided for in Section 17) refunded.
