Thornton Creek Hyporheic Restoration

An urban creek restoration included construction of hyporheic zones in addition to floodplan reconstruction. This project monitored & compared those restored sites against matched, unrestored portions of the creek & against forested sites in the same region. Annual monitoring of peizometer & surface waters for bacteria & archaea were conducted four times (immediately after restoration up to three years post-restoration). Hyporheic reconstruction is an emerging facet of stream restoration, & there is a paucity of information about biological responses to this approach. These data provides one of the few assessments of this technique.
