Sepsis mortality rate among infants in urban and rural China 2015-2021

In 2021, the mortality rate of sepsis among infants declined further to record low levels in both urban areas of China. Developments in treatment regimes and measures enabling earlier detection were the main contributing factors to the control of the disease. Sepsis is a systemic infection caused by bacteria or fungi that invade and multiply in the bloodstream, resulting in toxins and severe organ failures. With a weak immune system, newborns are usually more vulnerable to infections and are at higher risk of developing sepsis.

于2021年，中国城市地区婴幼儿的败血症死亡率进一步下降，创历史新低。治疗方案的进步以及早期检测措施的实施是控制该疾病的主要贡献因素。败血症是一种由细菌或真菌侵入并繁殖于血液循环系统所引起的全身性感染，导致毒素产生及严重器官衰竭。新生儿由于免疫系统脆弱，通常更容易受到感染，并面临更高的败血症发病风险。
